Our
Practice
Dr. Jewett specializes in
health maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute medical
problems for all age groups. He will be utilizing an EMR, or electronic
medical record, which provides easy and instant access to your medical
chart.
Appointments
Once you are established
as a patient, you will be able to access Dr. Jewett's schedule and book
your own appointment online for a day and time that is convenient to
you. You will receive an email reminder of your appointment. Of course,
you can call the office to make an appointment as well.
Dr.
Jewett will be offering 30 minute appointments. This allows for a
less rushed appointment. Some of our patients have asked us how
Dr. Jewett can schedule only 2 patients per hour. This was done
purposefully after determining what was most important to patients
- they want to know their physician has time to listen to their
concerns, and not feel rushed after waiting 2 hours to be seen.
By never double booking appointment slots, and allotting a full 30
minutes for each appointment, Dr. Jewett rarely keeps a patient
waiting, and has time to offer quality health care and health
maintenance.
Why don't
other physicians offer that kind of service? Because it is not a
financially viable model when the average overhead in most medical
offices is 60-70%. Dr. Jewett keeps his overhead low by having
less staff than the average office, and by keeping overhead costs at a
minimum by various creative means.
In return
for unhurried appointments, same day access, and on-time appointments,
we need our patients to be respectful of just a few guidelines.
1.
Medication Refills If you are out of refills, it
is probably time for an appointment. Please call to schedule an
appointment, or book online. If you have a mail order pharmacy,
please let Dr. Jewett know at your appointment so your follow up can be
scheduled a week or so early so that there is no interruption in your
medication. Please don't ask him to fill your prescriptions prior
to your appointment. This is time consuming and your medications
may change. Please know your pharmacy plan formulary. If
necessary, bring the latest copy to your appointment.
2.
Referrals to Specialists Almost all of the
specialists in the area require appointments be made by our office,
rather than individual patients. This involves Dr. Jewett
assessing you medically, writing a brief note to the specialist, faxing
over your most recent office note, labs, and x-rays. This is done
to insure the specialist has the most up to date information on your
medical history. His staff often needs to fill out forms
requesting the appointment as well as satisfying the rules of your
insurance company so that you do not get billed for the visit to the
specialist. Therefore, we require that you be seen in our office
before we set up a referral. If your insurance company referral
has expired, it is probably time to schedule a follow up in our
office.
3.
Billing Your Insurance We are happy to bill your
insurance for your office visit. However, it is not our
responsibility to know what is and is not covered by your plan, nor
would it be feasible considering the many plans available in this
area. If Dr. Jewett performs a service that is not covered by your
insurance, you will be responsible for the bill. You can
call your insurance company to try to understand the denial and appeal
it. We always welcome questions about payment plans if
needed.
After Hours
For established
patients, Dr. Jewett is offering 24 hour telephone accessibility
for new, acute, medical problems. Please call 788-0123 for instructions on how
to get in touch with Dr. Jewett after hours. This is not for prescription
refills, appointments, chronic problems, or general questions. Those can
be handled during regular business hours.
Open
Access
About 30% to 40% of Dr.
Jewett's appointments will be same day appointments so that you can be
seen and treated as problems arise.
No Show
Policy
In
order to allow the maximum availability of appointments for all our
patients, if you don't call or e-mail to reschedule your appointment 24
hours in advance of your scheduled appointment, you will be charged a
$40.00 fee. In much the same way as you can schedule an
appointment online, up to 24 hours in advance, you can cancel your
appointment online.
